Complications: Certainly a preceding viral infection can 'set you up' for a subsequent bacterial infection by weakening you. It actually happens quite often after something like the flu (which is another factor that makes flu so dangerous). In your case, you may now have a bacterial ear infection after the cold - so I highly recommend you see a doctor for that, who will look into your ear and confirm that.
