Not at the same time: stagger doses by 4-6 hrs. Could be very sedating to take these medicines together.

It is ok, but...: Both are sedative medications, and should not be taken simultaneously. This is especially true since the half life of Xanax is long - up to 16 hours, whereas Tramadol has a shorter half life of roughly 6 hours, so there will be overlap. Talk to your prescribing health care provider to ensure its clear how they believe administration will be helpful to you and avoid side effects.
