PH is >7; this is nl: An alkaline reaction means that the chemical strip in the "baby stool test" has registered a pH above 7. There are 2 types of solutions: acid (pH < 7) & alkaline (pH>7). Normally, the glands in the intestines release mucus & bicarbonate (NaHCO3) to neutralize stomach acid & the lubricate the colon, which makes the stool alkaline.
