Avoid purine foods.: You should try to avoid alcohol and purine-rich foods such as organ meats ( liver, kidneys, gizzards) or shellfish. Also drinking milk and consuming vitamin c at 500 mg per day have both been shown to decrease serum uric acid levels.

It depends: If gout, you may want to discuss what level your doctor wants to be at. Reduction of purine rich foods helps and weight loss can sometimes help as well.
