Yes,: unless you had the surgery a very long time ago, it should be fine from a safety standpoint. All standard surgical hardware is MRI safe these days. However, the artifact produced from the interaction of the metal with the magnetic field may cause a significant distortion of the scan or parts of the scan, limiting the interpretation.Be sure to tell the MRI tech the details of your neck surgery.

Yes: It really does not matter if you have a plate in place. Plates in the last 15 to 20 years do not interact dangerously with the MRI, and older plates will not move. The study may not be very good due to artifacts and distortion of the images with to the plate and screws in place. We do them routinely every day.
