A member asked:

My dad who is a healthy 57 year old, recently had surgery for a type a aortic dissection which was successful. what is his life expectancy now?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Life expectancy: There are no great numbers on this, as there are many other factors that will affect the life expectancy of a person, with or without having had sugery for Type A aorta dissection. Usually the life expectancy is not decreased due to the surgery, and he should live a healthy, normal life. Best advice of course is to keep his blood pressure and cholesterol under control, watch his weight/no smoking!
