Not likely: Unless she had a familial disease predisposing her to renal failure.If she had polycystic renal disease, diabetes, amyloidosis, sickle cell anaemia etc you could be at risk.How ever if it was the result of an acute illness it is very unlikely.

With a history of kidney failure in your family, your doctor should be able to help you manage any problems that should arise. Clearly, if you have hypertension and/or diabetes, control of them will perserve your kidney function.
