Normal uric acid: Your mother's uric acid (ua) is not currently elevated for a female. So at present, she does not need to take any precautions. If it rises above 6.5 mg/dl, she should discuss her ua level with her physician, as ua is increasing becoming known as a cardiovascular risk factor.

Discuss with your dr: 6.0 or less is the usual goal for gout patients if they are on therapy. Your mother may want to discuss this, but a variety of conditions have been associated with uric levels besides gout.
