Bite: The combination of hand swelling and itch does raise the question of an insect bite. Observe for spreading redness and warmth of the hand which would indicate cellulitis and the need for an examination by a physician and the starting of antibiotics. If there is no such development, apply a cortisone ointment to reduce itching.
