A member asked:

Are bilerubin blood levels always elevated in cade of jaundice?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Jaundice occurs...: ...by defintion, when your liver doesn't metabolize bilirubin the way it's supposed to. Depending on the clinical situation, jaundice and cholestasis may coexist or each may exist without the other. Serum bilirubin levels are however normal in patients with yellow skin caused by carotenemia or quinacrine. Ref: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK413/
