The answer depends: on the cause for the ear discharge and what the doctor is treating. It could be an external ear infection, or a perforation from a middle ear infection, or a traumatic perforation (the 3 most common causes). Since I do not know which of these (or other) is the source/cause, I would recommend you speak with your treating doctor or an ear, nose, throat specialist for a more precise answer.
