Gastroenterologist: He may be dealing with an irritable bowel syndrome as well as gerd. Have him consult a gastroenterologist for evaluation, diagnosis and proper treatment including dietary advice as well as avoiding alcohol, caffeine,nicotine and harsh roughage. In the meantime start him on prilosec or zantac daily until he is examined.
