A member asked:

I have lumps growing on my sternum. i had a ct scan and the doctor said the cartilage is calcificing. it is painful and deforming. can they be removed?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Hard to say: This depends on what cartilage is calcifying. There can be normal and abnormal cartilage calcifications. Normal calcification of the rib cartilage usually occur in elderly persons. If the cartilage calicification is a growing painful mass, it may be removable. Please consult your doctor and/or an orthopedic surgeon.
