A member asked:

Is macrobid low on the offender list for causing c diff? i have a history of c diff but need a good antibio for uti & want to be treated but also safe

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Macrobid and C. diff: I would agree-certainly some antibiotics are more 'likely' to cause C. diff compared to others. That list includes CLINDAMYCIN, but also fluoroquinolones like Cipro, Levaquin. Microbid shouldn't be too terrible and benefit of therapy (treating the UTI) should be weighed against risk (reactivating the C. diff). There are other factors involved -like how long ago you had the C. diff, etc. Talk 2 MD
