2 kinds: There is a distinction between endogenous (or biochemical) depressions, which arise for no obvious reason (and are responsive to antidepressants), and exogenous (or reactive / situational) depressions, which result from external circumstances (and are not as responsive to antidepressants). If your mom died and you're upset, you can't take a pill to feel better; you have to grieve her loss...
