If you are: a technologist or authorized xray worker, your facility should have policies and procedures in place for your protection as well as exposure monitoring. To your question, the thyroid is protected if it is covered with a lead shield. Some aprons have a flap that covers the thyroid region, in other cases a separate thyroid shield can be worn around the neck.
