A member asked:

How to diagnose pancreatic dysfunction? amylase, lipase and insulin blood test?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

History & physical: If the pancreas is inflamed or damaged, amylase and lipase are often up, and it's not subtle. If your pancreas isn't functioning properly, you'll be losing weight with no explanation and probably have diarrhea / steatorrhea. Your physician can check your stool for pancreatic enzymes. It's rare but with a suggestive history, a screen may show something that could respond to enzyme replacement.
