Chronic prostatitis: The long term course has not been well studied. Probably most cases clear up with time. Also, many cases probably do not actually involve the prostate gland at all. Google "chronic pelvic pain syndrome" and read the very good wikipedia article and information from the Stanford Univ. School of Medicine. Whether CPPS or true prostatitis, it's generally harmless. Probably you can live with it.
