Go to ER: Rectal bleeding can be due to a simple cause such as 'piles' or 'haemorrhoids' or something more serious such as bleeding from your lower gastrointestinal tract. In any case, this can lead to acute blood loss and shock therefore you need to go to ER to get your symptoms evaluated immediately. You may need a colonoscopy to see where you are bleeding from and to stop it

Blood per rectum: This is never normal and there is a lengthy list of causes; some not serious and some serious. It may be a local cause or a result of a body disease. Be seen and examined and have follow up tests as recommended.
