Surgery or disease: Not sure if you are talking about the surgery or the effects of chronic inflammation. As long as there is not over resection of the turbinates there should be no long term repercussions. Chronic inflammation creates tissue swelling, too thick mucous and left untreated may cause recurrence of the turbinate swelling so important to control the inflammation.

Turbinate Reduction: Turbinate reduction is usually a pretty benign procedure with few complications. There can be bleeding or crusting postoperatively. The biggest problem for the long term is if too much of the turbinate is removed leading to 'empty nose syndrome, ' which is exceedingly rare.

Turbinates: There are many different procedures to reduce turbinate hypertrophy, The goal is to reduce hypertrophied tissue while maintaining the mucosal surface, as the turbinates serve an important function. Be sure to have your nose evaluated by a board certified otolaryngologist.
