A member asked:

I'm a 53 female hpv carrier & wish to know if i can donate blood, for doesn't a blood borne virus would make me ineligible? can they screen for it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: HPV is a local tissue infection. It does not travel through the blood and can never be passed through a transfusion. There will be circulating antibodies to HPV in the blood, but these are not a problem.Blood centers would not routinely look for HPV antibodies. Most will ask you basic questions about sexual contacts & some STD's (not HPV).
