how long do the symptoms appear of a person after contracting hiv/aids?

1 doctor answer
Dr. Julie Abbott
44 years experience Preventive Medicine
A large proportion: of people infected with HIV will experience symptoms of fever, lymph node enlargement, sore throat, skin rash, muscle and joint aches, etc., within 2-4 weeks after exposure/infection.Symptoms often unrecognized as HIV as they are the same as many other common viral illnesses (influenza, etc).Perhaps 30+%, however, do not experience symptoms with initial infection. AIDS occurs usually years later
