Both these numbers: represent borderline high risk for future cardiac/other vascular disease; they should respond to diet/lifestyle. I recommend the Mediterranean diet: majority of calories and protein (soy, fish) from plant-based foods, moderate fat intake from olive/canola oils and nuts/almonds. MAINTAIN IDEAL WEIGHT. Dietary fiber (oat bran, flaxseed) will reduce chol absorption; try plant stanol spread.
