Low K: There are many reasons to have a low K and some are dangerous. What meds is he taking? How much K does he eat a day? Does low K run in the family? This is my area of expertise and happy to do 2nd opinion. Have uncle by your side so he can give me permission to talk to you about him.

You need follow up: Hypokalemia mean low level of potassium in the blood is treated with administration of potassium for IV best way, whoever my opinion is you will need follow up with you PCP to check level the K in the blood and the causes of this condition,Example diuretic treatment,v renal failure etc.
