Acute Pharyngitis: 18 y/o male says it hurts to swallow. Only been happening in the past 24 hours. Have taken Ibuprofen for inflammation but no improvement. Acute pharyngitis usually due to viruses with Upper Respiratory infections, frequent. But Strep Throat caused by bacteria is also common. Gargling with warm salt water helps but most likely one may need to see M.D. for Antibiotics

Sore throat : Sore throat can be caused by virus and bacteria . If you have runny nose , cough that would indicate towards viral cause for it . Pain relief , warm saline gargles , honey and lemon drink is what is needed in that case . If it's fever and just sore throats then it might be bacterial infection and you might need antibiotics.
