The recommended: treatment is Beta blockers. There are other benefits besides heart rate control. If the doctor felt it was indicated then it should be continued regardless of what you think is too high or not with regard to heart rate. It is not risky it is appropriate. Follow your doctor's directions it is not ok to not use it.
