A member asked:

Is it a good idea for acid reflux patients to alternate b/n nexium(40 mg) one day and rentdine(300 mg) on next day to minimize potntal side effects of these medications if used for long term.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Take one that works : Alternating two medications may not help you determine which one really works for you. Most patients would take Nexium or a similar drug to control acid reflux for an extended period of time. Ranitidine can be added as a one-time nightly dose if symptoms are not controlled. Once symptoms are stable a drug holiday could be considered.
