Physiological splint: Important to consider whether or not the onset was sudden, possibly after an injury, or slow increasing over time. Also is there an increased temperature or color change to the ankle area. The swelling is actually a physiological cast applied by your body when decreased mobility is called for. If there is no decrease in symptoms, it would be wise to have the ankle evaluated.
