Is dvt caused by the leg injury itself or the immobilization following the leg injury?

Both: Trauma can cause a DVT both direct and polytrauma (multiple injuries). Immobilization also can cause a DVT also. The risks are multi-factorial as you can easily see the relationship.

Dvt: Either can stimulate a dvt,as leg injury may cause vein damage and then immobilization prevents rapid vein return leading to stagnation and blood clot
