Single vs plural: A kidney calculus is a single stone in the kidney. Calculi would refer to more than one stone. This may also be called nephrolithiasis. It can be diagnosed with ultrasound or CT, with CT being more sensitive for smaller stones.

"Calculi": is the plural of "calculus", so the former implies multiple kidney stones, and the latter a single stone.
