Cranial nerve V has: a branch that exits from the side of the jaw bilaterally near the chin and gives sensation to chin and lower lip. If there was compression there, such as leaning your chin on your palm, it could cause some temporary injury to the nerve and causes numbness.

Oral: May not be dental, but may be oral. Your mouth and intra-oral tissues should be evaluated by a Dentist. If no oral cause can be found the next step would be to see a neurologist.
