Neighbor next door: Yes, it is hormones. The pituitary gland is attached to a part of the brain called the hypothalamus whereby hormone feedback loops are centered. The "next door neighbor" to the brain hypothalamus is the thalamus which controls temperature regulation. So, when that "house is on fire" so will the house next door feels the heat.
