A member asked:

My six year old was diagnosed with flu today. she has had high temps that have lowered and are now at 95.8. is that something to be concerned about?

Low body temperature: Low body temperature can be due to what is used to measure temp. Ear thermometers often read lower than oral and rectal thermometers. Temp below 95 F would be of concern for spread of infection. Contact your doctor if daughter's body temp drops below 95 F.

Moderate concern: Fever is how our body fights infection so it is better if she is running a fever, but infections can occ. cause low temps. Did you give her medicines to reduce fever? As Dr. Poinsett wisely said, your measurement may be inaccurate. If you get a more accurate measurement and it is 95 or below I advise seeing a doctor.
