Tendon issue: In the area you are describing this is posterior tibial tendonitis, if it has been going on for 1 1/2 years you may have damage to the tendon and should have it looked at.

Peroneal tendinitis: Pain on the outside aspect of ankle? Is it behind the outer ankle bone? Possibly a peroneal tendinitis. There is a peroneus longus muscle tendon that runs behind the outer ankle bone (fibula, lateral malleolus) . This usually occurs due to overuse, meaning a patient/athlete does repetitive activities that irritate the tendon over long periods of time. See a podiatrist for evaluation and treatment
