Yes probably: Coming off is not a complete "no-no". Depends on the dose. Sometimes lowering the dose can help. One of the issues with going off metformin entirely is can worsen diabetic control and it can increase your insulin requirements if you are on it. Usually transient: How long have you been on the metformin. Diarrhoea is a very common side effect, particularly when first starting this medication BUT it is usually transient. Metformin is a very good medication for controlling diabetes but if you can not tolerate it, there are alternatives.

Metformin: I would suggest that try reducing the dose of metformin to. 500 mg per day . If you are tolerating that , then increase the dose slowly. It is not uncommon to have diarrhoea if started on a higher dose. Also. Get stool tested to rule out infection or viral cause before pinning down the blame on metformin . While u do this make sure your sugars are controlled. See your doctor and make a plan .
