A member asked:

Can a collection of darkish spider veins on the upper inside calf, at times, be mildly painful but without reflux, varicose or vein clot?

Yes: This is a common symptom. Blood can collect in these dilated, non-functional veins causing them to swell and ache. A compression stocking is helpful but only definitive treatment with sclerotherapy, phlebectomy of ablation is curative. Miamibeachvein.Com or phlebology.Org to learn more.

Yes but: Yes, but often there is an underlying reason. A complete venous ultrasound can check this. Dhjoyce jvai.Com.

Spider Veins: In general spider veins are not painful but over the years I have seen a number of people say that their spider veins hurt them. Spider veins may or may not be associated with reflux or varicose veins. Vein clots have no relationship with spider veins. If you have a vein problem then you should see a vein specialist for a full venous evaluation with a venous ultrasound.
