Doctor can evaluate: A primary care doctor can check to see if there is a bad cold (viral infection), a strep throat (bacterial, needs antibiotics), a sinus infection, allergies in the nose and sinuses, infection or wheezing in the lungs (might need asthma treatment or antibiotics), etc... Usually, fever more than 3 days can mean influenza, or can be another bacterial or viral infection.
