Safe, +/- helpful: Your doctor is trying to protect you against disruption of intestinal bacteria by the antibiotics. Lactobacillus is one of those treatments that seems to make sense for this purpose, but rarely is helpful. However, it won't hurt, and you should follow your doctor's advice.
