Depends: There are several antibiotics that can be used for sinus infections. Your speceific symptoms, previous reactions to medications, and even the area you live in can affect what antibiotic is best. Your doctor will make that decision when you see him/her. Make sure to tell your physician all of your symptoms accurately and take your medication as prescribed.

Not easy to say: Meet with your doctor to see whether it is a URI (cold) or a true sinus infection. If not allergic to penicillin, Amoxicillin or Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) ( amoxicillin/ clavulinic acid) is still the best first choice for antibiotic. Some infections require different treatments based on local resistance patterns to antibiotics. The american academy of otolaryngology provided treatment recommendations-google it.
