Maybe not herpes: Swelling alone, without blisters or sores typical of oral herpes, probably isn't due to herpes. And that's the only condition helped by acyclovir. If it is herpes, it takes a few days for acyclovir to improve things. If in doubt, see the doctor who prescribed it.
