Well child?: Children who are tired, short of breath, losing weight and not eating or playing may well have a serious heart condition. A playful, well child who is growing and gaining weight is less likely to have a significant or worrisome murmur.

Heart murmur: Murmur is the sound of blood through valves/ openings. Often is physiologic - fast flow through tiny heart .Others- holes that did not close w/ birth ( patent foramen ovale),or mitral valve prolapse(floppy valve), not usually very significant. Patent ductus, ventral septal defect, bicupid valve, stenosis, hypertrophy, anomolous vessels require more f/u. Serious ones often present at birth.
