You probably were: The most common reason for this happening is a chemical pregnancy. You started to get pregnant. When the egg tried to connect to the uterus, it stimulated hormone release that made the test positive. But then something failed and the pregnancy failed, so the low level is the hormone going away. It takes weeks for the result to go away. Also, a home test that sits too long looks positive.

Depends on timing.: When was the quantitative hCG test taken (# days after your last period)? There are many reports of HPTs being positive with negative urine tests in doctor's office. That's because the doctor's urine test is less sensitive - to avoid giving you false info. The quantitative hCG is generally best test, but result depends on implantation date. hCG should double every 2 days per baby if pregnant. TTYD
