A Mouth guard may be recommended while sleeping as it's important to avoid grinding your teeth or clenching your jaw while sleeping.

TMJ pain: TMJ syndrome affects temperomandibular joint ( jaw area to front of ear) and can cause pain with chewing, talking or yawning. You may hear clicking or popping sounds when opening mouth and difficult it open jaw fully. See a doctor if the pain is severe or locked in position. Warm compresses to area may help with mild pain.
