Neck mass: A mass on the neck could be many things without more details. If it is in the skin, it could be a cyst. If it is deeper, it could be associated with the muscles, lymphatics, or vascular structures. Other structures that can develop masses would include the parotid or submandibular glands, as well as the thyroid gland.

See doctor: Lumps can be cysts, lymph nodes or other sorts of masses. The only way to determine if it is serious is to have a doctor examine it and give you a diagnosis. If they cannot tell what it is on exam they may want to do an ultrasound. Many lumps are benign but some can be serious so get it checked out soon by a doctor.
