What is the treatment for losing your voice?

Voice: If pt. Has cold or flu symptoms or if pt. Spoke, or sung for long time then voice rest( shut up) is the treatment. If change in voice persists for more than one month then laryngoscopy is necessary and other causes must be ruled out. Voice change after strokes require speechtherapist treatment. Voice change after surgery could be b/o tube for anesthesia or a paralysis of the vocal cord or nerve.

Voice rest: Hoarseness is most commonly caused by overuse, smoking or acid reflux. Avoid screaming and whispering. See an ENT specialist for hoarseness lasting longer than 2 weeks. www.richmondent.com.
