Virus: Having had chicken pox just means that you could possibly develop shingles later. Only a small percentage of people do. Risk is higher with older people. Shingles is deactivation of the chicken pox virus in the root of a nerve that causes classic often painful blisters on skin along the path of the nerve. Heals without complications in most patients. Small number of people left with chronic pain.
