Conservative measure: Not every patient with a disc herniation needs surgery, in fact most do not. Patients can opt to exhaust conservative measures such as physical therapy, chiropractic care, acupuncture, rest, ice or heat, pain medications, activity modification and lumbar epidural steroid injections
