Vomiting/diarrhea: The thing that we worry about most when a patient has severe diarrhea and vomiting is that they might become dehydrated. There are several ways to assess this on physical exam and by lab tests. 95% of people can be hydrated orally but 5% can not keep fluids down and they need to be hydrate by IV fluids. It is the dehydration that can kill you, not the lack of cookies.

Time: Most food poisoning takes time to clear and there is really no effective treatment for it (except for parasites).. If you are having a lot of diarrhea or vomiting, be sure that you don't get dehydrated by consuming fluids with electrolytes (sports drink etc). Most should resolve in less than 2 days. If longer than that, see your doctor.

Depends...: The treatment for food poisoning really depends on the type of food poisoning and the symptoms you are having. In general, keeping hydrated is important. If you are having a lot of nausea/vomiting/diarrhea, drinking a sports drink will help keep your electrolytes normal. If your symptoms are severe or persistent, see a doctor ASAP. Good luck!!
