A member asked:

If a person has oral warts, then how likely is it for that person to develop oral cancer?

Oral warts/Cancer: Oral warts and oral cancer are unrelated diseases. There is no current evidence to support oral warts leading to oral cancer. However, there is evidence connecting HPV infection to throat/tonsil cancers. The subtype of HPV that causes these cancers is NOT the same subtype as that which causes oral warts.

Not related: Herpes of the mouth, usually HSV 1 related, is not a risk factor for developing oral cancer.
