I'm a 38yr old african american pregnant(19w2d) woman w/ my 1st child.i had 2 normal afp results.is an amnio still necessary w/o history of disorders?

Only you can tell: This would only be necessary if the results would change how you handle your pregnancy.The same data can be done on fetal cells circulating in your blood.The NIPP is a non-invasive test that can be done as early as 8 wks.Originally promoted for paternity studies they can do a full chromosome workup on it.Many would want to know so they could prepare mentally if a problem is expected.
